Natural & Cultural Significance

The land is thick with hardwoods like ironwood and black oak, and sugar maple. The land that is contiguous with more than 3,000 acres of protected conservation properties is bisected by Doolittle Brook, a river directed by a rocky landscape and an industrious colony of beavers and is stocked annually with trout in the spring. At a higher level, a spring-fed brook washes down the mountain and is a resource of fresh drinking water for hikers and wildlife alike.

Donated to the NLC free of encumbrances by Dvora Eisenstein and Lorelie Bond, this land borders the ancestral territory of the Nipmuc people. We named this land, Nepesoneag, a Nipmuc word, inspired by the spirit of the water that runs through the land. A cultural respect easement has been offered to the Nipmuc to ensure their cultural connection to the land is honored and protected in perpetuity.
