Conservation easements, sometimes called conservation restrictions, allow people to permanently protect land.

why IT’s Important

When someone voluntarily gives up specific development rights, they guarantee that its conservation values are protected. When the NLC holds a conservation easement, it monitors the land annually. In some cases, conservation easements can also promote Indigenous cultural access.
