Parting ways
33 Acres of woodlands in Kingston, MA gifted to the NLC by the Northeast Wilderness Trust to conserve and protect culturally significant lands in respectful cooperation.
Natural & Cultural Significance
These parcels represent a small portion of the Wampanoag ancestral homelands. They are also part of the globally rare Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens and habitat for many four-legged, winged, and finned creatures, including garter snakes, bats, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and wood frogs.
This gift is significant as it is nearby the Wampanoag Common Lands where tribal people gather socially, and for foraging, hunting, recreation and ceremony. A network of gentle trails connects the donated parcels with NEWT’s Muddy Pond Wilderness Preserve and the Wampanoag Common Lands.
