On February 2024, NLC acquired 2.5 acres of woodlands at 88 Payamps Road in Mashpee.Located near John’s Pond in the ancestral homeland of the Mashpee Wampanoag the parcel holds promise for its cultural and ecological value. Bordered on two sides by development it is also bordered by an ancient way and town-owned open space. The purchase of the land by NLC rescues it from certain development most likely clear-cutting to accommodate a cell tower or solar panels. 

 

The property is located within the ancestral homeland of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and is significant to the tribe as a hunting and fishing area.
